Liverpool One a magnet for retail tenants
Liverpool One, the city’s £1bn retail development, is close to putting up the “house full” signs.
Despite the ravages of the recession the development is currently close to being 97% occupied.
And Chris Bliss, estates director with Liverpool One developer Grosvenor, predicted that the centre should “be up towards 99% full towards the end of this year”.
Recent additions to the tenant roll include fashion designer Kirsty Doyle and jewellery shop Pandora which opened two weeks ago.
Ladieswear store Coast and the Centro juice and coffee bar both opened last week, while independent Catalonian restaurant and delicatessen Lunya is due to open its doors in the middle of March.
Mr Bliss said: “We have got a few more deals coming through the pipeline and are very close to being full.
“It’s a fantastic achievement, considering the current economic climate.”
But he acknowledged that the centre must continue to evolve to maintain its envious position: “We can’t sit on our laurels and assume it will be this comfortable for ever.
“We’re always looking at ways we can improve services for our tenants.”
Grosvenor funded the scheme – which at one point was one of the biggest regeneration developments of its kind in Europe – from its own resources and has been rewarded by its success in one of the worst downturns in generations.
The centre has catapulted the city from 15th to fifth in UK retail chart
