Travel Industry Flies High With Skills Training
One of the UK’s largest travel businesses has committed to improving the skills of its staff to ensure a continued high-level of service, despite the current economic climate.
The Co-operative Travel, which has more than 20 branches in Merseyside, is offering National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) training to all staff with the help of the Learning and Skills Council (LSC).
The training, which includes sales, business administration, team leading and customer service, is tailored to each staff member depending on their level of experience and past qualifications.
James Monaghan, branch manager at The Co-operative Travel in Huyton, which has nine staff training for NVQs at levels one to three, said: “Training is a fantastic way for us to ensure that our staff are given everything they need to do their jobs well.
“The training is delivered using an e-learning package so it is flexible to the needs of the learners and can be completed at their own pace. It highlights and builds on the strengths of our staff.”
The training, which is funded by LSC in Greater Merseyside, is delivered by Bury-based Training for Travel – a specialist training provider aimed at upskilling the travel industry.
Jordan Makin from Training for Travel, said: “We have seen a steady increase in employee training over the last few months. It is one of the best ways for an employer to invest in their staff – it really boosts staff retention levels and demonstrates a commitment to the needs of employees.”
Paul Tinsley, Partnership Director from LSC Greater Merseyside, said: “Training is a great way to show confidence in staff and ensure that businesses are delivering the best service possible.
“Courses are adapted to suit the individual training needs of each staff member to identify where they are strong, and where they need a skills boost – it is a great way to improve and build on staff confidence.”
