Edge Lane Project - Overview
For more than 20 years there have been calls to upgrade and improve Edge Lane and now Liverpool Vision has been tasked with continuing the development of this exciting project.
The highway works are split into three phases; Edge Lane Drive, Edge Lane Central and Edge Lane West.
The first two phases are now complete and, following the decision by the Secretary of State on the compulsory purchase order, Liverpool Vision and its partners are now able to transform the entire Edge Lane corridor into a stunning new approach to the city.
The go-ahead comes after a Public Inquiry came down in favour of the scheme which centres on the Kensington area at the western end of Edge Lane.
The aim is to improve the whole length of the Edge Lane corridor from the M62 at The Rocket Junction to Hall Lane. The highway improvements will reduce congestion and improve safety and as importantly enhance the local environment, generate new employment opportunities and provide new and improved housing
During the next few years there will be regeneration activity across the area to create a new route which also reflects Liverpool's Culture and World Heritage City status and its aspirations as a leading European city.
Highway Changes
It is anticipated work will start on the highway from Botanic Road to Hall Lane during late spring 2010. Unfortunately in order to deliver these major improvements referred to above there will inevitably be some disruption with regard to these specific highway improvements. Liverpool Vision is working with Liverpool City Council and the emergency services to minimise disruption where possible but traffic will be restricted to one lane into the city and one lane out at certain times of the day.
