North Liverpool and South Sefton presents an economic opportunity of national significance. It is located immediately adjacent to Liverpool City Centre and the Liverpool Enterprise Zone and has seven kilometres of underutilised waterfront, extending to the Port of Liverpool and Sefton’s main office district to the north. The location offers significant potential for growth, with the extension of Liverpool City Centre through the City Fringe area and Peel’s landmark Liverpool Waters development. This will be reinforced by the development of the Port of Liverpool, and Liverpool 2; The Seaforth River Terminal. Other projects planned in the area will focus on low carbon and North Liverpool’s retail, cultural and visitor offer.
The ambitious long term Vision and aspiration for the area is presented in detail in the established North Liverpool and South Sefton Strategic Regeneration Framework. This document outlines partner interventions and focuses on the delivery of a number of transformational actions and co-ordinated activity, in the three key themes of developing People, Place and Prosperity.
SuperPort
SuperPort
Liverpool’s ports, airport, road, rail and logistic assets provide a considerable economic driver. The opportunities for SuperPort are global and can further transform the economy of the city region.
With its central position in the UK, situated in the largest economic region outside of London, Liverpool is in an ideal position to take advantage of global trends. Emerging lucrative markets and the widening of the Panama Canal are opening up trade routes. Businesses are also placing more emphasis on moving people and freight both at the lowest possible cost and the lowest possible carbon output. Liverpool’s SuperPort vision envisages a massive expansion of Liverpool’s role as a global trading gateway.
Liverpool 2
Liverpool 2 will be a new £300m container terminal at the Port of Liverpool in Seaforth and forms part of a 20 year plan to transform the Port of Liverpool. The Peel Ports development will create 5,000 jobs and bring the world’s largest container ships to the River Mersey. Liverpool2 is due to open in 2015 and will accommodate two large vessels at one time.
Liverpool 2 will be more efficient as it will take large amounts of freight off the UK road and rail networks. This proposed investment in the freight and logistics sector will substantially extend the ports capacity and ensure that the areas key economic asset remains a driver for new employment and prosperity, linked to new international markets.
Liverpool Waters
Liverpool Waters
The Liverpool Waters vision involves regenerating a 60 hectare historic dockland site to create a world-class, high-quality, mixed use waterfront quarter in central Liverpool.
The scheme will create a unique sense of place, taking advantage of the sites’ cultural heritage and integrating it with exciting and sustainable new developments. Liverpool Waters will contribute substantially to the growth and development of the city, allowing ease of movement and strong connections between Northshore, its hinterland, and the city centre. It will accommodate new and existing residents, create tens of thousands of new jobs, attract national and international businesses, and encourage a significant increase in the number of visitors to the city. Peel Holding’s ambitious vision for the Mersey Waters Enterprise Zone is one of the City Region’s most important regeneration and investment opportunities. Opportunity Football
Liverpool FC and Everton FC are global brands and two of the biggest business organisations in North Liverpool with a combined turnover of hundreds of millions of pounds. Both Clubs are committed to substantial investment to either replace or expand their existing stadia. These investments have the potential to create direct employment, connectivity and wider tourism and leisure potential. These investments must be maximised as opportunities to drive economic and physical improvements in the wider area.
