Wates wins £5.5m Bootle college build
A £5.5m contract to build the new Hugh Baird College in Bootle has been awarded to Wates Construction.
The 27,900 sq ft building will include teaching spaces, a creative arts centre, a public café and a learning resource centre. It is set to open in time for the September 2013 academic year.
Designed by architects' practice Taylor Young, the five-storey college building will also comprise open-plan study areas and a community-led Jobcentre Plus.
Tony Shenton, business unit director for Wates Construction North West, said: "The new Hugh Baird College building will become an excellent facility for the people of Bootle, and will significantly contribute to the area’s regeneration."
Wates, which recently completed Liverpool John Moores University’s £37.6m Redmonds Building on Clarence Street, said the Hugh Baird project would generate a raft of training and employment opportunities.
The company was appointed to the project through the North West Construction Hub.
