Trade minister hails Liverpool successes

Trade minister Lord Green has visited three businesses in Liverpool that have been successful in helping to drive exports.
The minister spent time with Clarke Energy in Knowsley, RS Clare & Co in Dingle and Jaguar Land Rover in Halewood.
He said: "I cannot emphasise enough how important export is in developing companies and securing their futures in markets around the world. It is through export that we see these companies become more innovative in their work.
"This is illustrated perfectly here in Liverpool with Clarke Energy, RS Clare and Jaguar Land Rover. I have had the privilege of seeing for myself how these firms support the local area and what they have achieved in tough economic times.
"They are good examples of the work we need to do across the country to secure growth."
Clarke Energy the largest independent distributor and service partner for GE Energy’s Jenbacher gas engine, has grown significantly in the past two years. It expects a turnover of £250m this year – 60 per cent of which is generated overseas.
The business now employs 130 people in Knowsley and an additional 90 engineers across the UK.
RS Clare also generates 47 per cent of its £12m sales internationally, while JLR exported 75 per cent of its UK production last year, generating revenue in export markets approaching £8bn.
