Simarco praises Liverpool role
A surge in foreign trade handled by the Liverpool bureau of independent freight and logistics business Simarco has resulted in it posting record figures.
The company revealed that its Liverpool team has reported that volumes of sea and air freight it handles rise by 25 per cent in the space of 12 months.
It said the performance has been bolstered by appointments which allowed it to take advantage of the continued strong showing of the Port of Liverpool itself.
Managing director Simon Reed said: "The past year has reinforced the commercial and geographical advantages which our office in the city represents. The number of containers we import and export both by sea and air on behalf of clients through Liverpool has increased.
"We have also seen a rise in the number of companies recognising that site as something of a national leader in its ability to handle all their customs' paperwork."
Simarco reported record turnover figures of £22m for the year to 31 March 2011, up from £17.5m a year earlier.
Reed added: "The government has underlined the role that foreign trade will have in helping bring Britain out of recession and operations such as our team in Liverpool play an important part in those import and export processes."
