Shortlist revealed for 2011 Morgan Foundation Entrepreneur Awards
The shortlist for this year’s Morgan Foundation Entrepreneur Awards has been revealed, with a strong Merseyside presence across the seven different categories.
Cash prizes worth a total of £115,000 are available to the winners and runners-up, who will be revealed at a gala dinner on November 10, at the Carden Park Hotel, near Chester.
Successful entrants will also receive a package of professional services.
The awards, sponsored by Ewloe-based housebuilder Redrow, founded by Liverpool entrepreneur Steve Morgan, attracted a record number of entries from charities, social enterprises, businesses and entrepreneurs in Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and the Midlands.
Finalists will now undergo interviews by a panel of experts, including Mr Morgan and senior representatives from Barclays and financial services group Deloitte.
Mr Morgan said: “The first round judges have a difficult task, the final panel an even tougher one.
“The standard is extremely high, so the judges need to really understand the businesses and the entrepreneurs behind them, before we can decide who will lift the prizes.”
The finalists in each category include Eco Environments, from Bootle, and St Helens company Labelline UK, in the Best New Business sector.
Eco Environments is also a finalist in the Best Business Providing an Economic or Social Contribution to the Region category, along with Comtek Network Systems UK, from Deeside.
The Best Entrepreneurial Charity or Social Enterprise includes The Brink, from Liverpool, and Belle Vale-based Little League Sports.
Best Entrepreneurial Charity or Social Enterprise in Liverpool, sponsored by regeneration agency Liverpool Vision, will be between The Brink, Merseyside Domestic Violence Services, Little League Sports, and Squash Nutrition.
Best Young Entrepreneur features Mark Gleave, of Healthbox CIC, in Chester, and two Liverpool contenders in Simon Roberts, from Roberts Recycling, andEva Zych, of Flavory Nature.
Best New Business Idea by a Young Entrepreneur includes Liverpool entrants Kelsey Donlevy, from Just Dance, Toni Marie Hynes, of UK Visits, and Creative Craft Jewellery’s Tina Lee.
And, finally, the Against All Odds category includes Liverpool interest from Jane Davis and Niall Gibney, of The Reader Organisation, and Jean Taylor, from Families Fighting for Justice.
