QVC UK has become the latest to join the 80-20 Movement

Multimedia retailer, QVC UK, is the latest organisation to join Groundwork Merseyside’s new membership scheme, the 80-20 Foundation. The partnership will see Groundwork Merseyside work closely with the Knowsley based Operations Centre in becoming a more sustainable operation, offering and promoting ideas around business resilience.

The 80-20 Foundation works with a spectrum of Merseyside organisations and businesses of various sizes from different sectors and industries, individually and collectively, to develop, improve, embed and showcase their responsible credentials.

QVC UK is committed to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and is involved in a number of projects that underline this commitment. In 2010, QVC UK was awarded the Knowsley Chamber Corporate Social Responsibility Award. Their direct involvement with Groundwork Merseyside and 80-20 came through the work Bernie Budworth, Business Continuity Manager, QVC UK, was doing in the area of business resilience for SME’s and third sector organisations within Merseyside. Becoming a member of the 80-20 Foundation presents QVC UK with the opportunity to work collaboratively to support businesses and social enterprises at the smaller end of the scale in becoming more resilient.

QVC will work with Groundwork Merseyside and the 80-20 Foundation in putting together quarterly seminars and workshops based on the Business Continuity Institute, Business Continuity Good Practice Guidelines and the Business Continuity Lifecycle with input from a number of different other organisations. Bernie Budworth will work with members of the 80-20 Foundation, enabling them to lead, mentor and share best practice with other members embarking on their journey of sustainability. The workshops will enable members to feel more confident and develop business resilience plans.

The 80-20 Foundation helps firms understand what needs to be changed, the opportunities for learning and collaboration, as well as the positive benefits these changes will create for the future. Members will receive a full responsible business review as well as a concise business development plan. The plan will highlight changes and opportunities to make the business more economically, socially and environmentally sustainable. QVC UK, along with other members, will also be invited to core seminars and conferences as well as networking sessions with other like minded organisations.

Kelly Morgan, Head of HR at QVC, said:

“We are delighted to be involved in the 80-20 Foundation. Although QVC is a global brand, we have over 1,500 employees within our Knowsley site, the majority of whom are from the local area, so it’s vitally important for us as a local business to be able to engage, support and advise people and businesses within the local community. We also support the overall objectives of the 80-20 movement, which are about engaging people and empowering them to become community organisers.”

Tony Seasman, Marketing and Communications Manager at Groundwork Merseyside said;

“Although the 80-20 Foundation is facilitated and, in part, delivered by Groundwork Merseyside, the ethos behind the 80-20 movement is for members to contribute and share best practice with each other. We are delighted that QVC have joined and are willing to contribute by helping members via business resilience and also looking for opportunities for their staff to get involved within the local community.”

The 80-20 Foundation is developed and supported by Groundwork Merseyside. The Foundation is a creative Merseyside based response to achieving responsible business practice and environmental sustainability across the Liverpool City region.
