Mayor of Liverpool’s Investors Summit: Thursday 25th October
Venue: The Powerhouse, Upper Parliament Street, Liverpool L8 7JU (map)
Time: 12.15pm – 4.15pm
Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson is leading a business walkabout to promote the “vibrant” business offer in the Lodge Lane, Smithdown Road and Lawrence Road area of the city.
Mayor Anderson said: “Liverpool has the fastest growing economy outside of London and one of the fastest growing retail sectors in the UK.
“While much of the retail development has been driven by the city centre there is growing interest in those high streets that border the city centre and offer a more specialised and unique offer, in particular the retail corridors of Lodge Lane, Smithdown Road and Lawrence Road.
“These three distinct high streets, with 320 shop premises between them, cover three postcode areas of L8, L7 and L15, or “Liverpool 1578”.
“Within the past four years the occupancy rate in Liverpool 1578 has increased from 71% to an impressive 83% indicating sustainability and growth that is bucking the country-wide trend. As the area repopulates from a number of significant ongoing housing development schemes, we predict that this positive trend will only increase.
“As the City Mayor for Liverpool I am determined to do whatever I can to make this diverse and vibrant area continue to remain attractive to investors, offering as it does a range of world class items from around the world.”
Mayor Anderson revealed that a multi-agency group dedicated to this key part of the city has been established, which issubsidising the training to acquire world host status, and investing in “cleaning and greening projects”.
It is also working with partners such as the Tiber group, who with backing from national shop guru Mary Portas, are building a £100,000 market square on Lodge Lane.
The Granby Toxteth Development Trust, which is administering £1,000,000 for local “Food and Fuel” projects over the next five years is also involved.
Mayor Anderson added: “To showcase all the unique potential of the Liverpool 1578 area I have organised an Investors Summit. This will include presentations, a walkabout of the area, lunch and direct access to key local organisations and individuals.
This will be a great chance to see the opportunities available in the area and speak to those who can assist potential investors.”
