Marsh launches new Liverpool arm

Global professional services group Marsh & McLennan Companies has founded a new operation in Liverpool.

Its insurance broking arm Marsh has launched the new team which will complement its existing North West bases in Manchester and the Isle of Man.

The operation will be led by Marsh executive Phil Angus and supported by North West chairman John Penwill and be based in the offices of sister company Mercer, a specialist in human resources consulting, outsourcing and investments.

Marsh provides insurance broking and risk advisory services to organisations including the retail, manufacturing, power and utilities and food sectors.

Mersey native Angus joins from the firm's Manchester office and previously led the company's broking operations on the Isle of Man.

"I'm delighted to be coming home to Liverpool to lead Marsh's insurance broking operation," he said.

"Marsh & McLennan Companies has a long-standing presence in Liverpool and Marsh has ambitious growth plans for the North West of England."

Marsh & McLennan Companies has a long-standing association with Liverpool, stretching back to 1835 when Benjamin Bowring established his insurance brokerage business.

Later known as CT Bowring, the Liverpool firm became an international shipping and insurance broking business and was acquired by Marsh & McLennan Companies in 1980.
