Mann Island development opens doors to showcase life on the Liverpool waterfront

THE newest addition to Liverpool’s waterfront opened its doors to showcase life in the city’s World Heritage Site.
An open house event at the £80m Mann Island development on Saturday gave members of the public the chance to see inside the black granite-clad blocks for the first time.
The neighbouring buildings were given the names Latitude and Longitude as a tribute to Merseyside’s rich maritime tradition.
A glass-covered walkway joining the two buildings is known as Equator.
Latitude and Longitude contain 376 apartments with a 24-hour concierge.
Residents will join celebrity chef Raymond Blanc, whose Brasserie Blanc restaurant chain signed a lease for a unit in Longitude.
The landmark blocks were built by Merseyside firm Neptune Developments and partner Countryside Properties.
The first occupants are now moving into their apartments as finishing touches are being put to the development.
Countryside Property’s regional sales and marketing director Peter Vella said: “A century ago, Mann Island was an amazing community of artisans, craftsmen and company managers, as well as a mix of businesses.
“Our Mann Island development is creating a new community of people in what must be one of the most amazing living spaces anywhere in the world.
“As well as being at the heart of the World Heritage Site, its next door neighbour is the Museum of Liverpool.
“The fact we have attracted a Brasserie Blanc restaurant is an illustration of the style and high standard we have set.”
The Mann Island development sparked controversy almost as soon as the plans were revealed.
Critics included architect Will Allsop, who was behind the failed Fourth Grace scheme.
But developers said it had captured the imaginations of househunters looking for a city pad.
One-bedroom apartments start at £120,000 and the largest triplex units are selling for around £500,000.
A third block will house Merseytravel’s new headquarters.
