Liverpool jeweller Boodles opens Hong Kong concession

Top Liverpool jeweller Boodles has opened its first store in Asia.

The Lord Street-based family firm has a concession in the Lane Crawford department store in its first opening outside the UK and Republic of Ireland.

And the business could make its next move in mainland China.

Managing director Michael Wainwright, whose family bought the Boodles business in 1910, said: “A lot of the sales made in stores in Hong Kong are to people from mainland China.

“Obviously Shanghai and Beijing in the course of the next few years have got to be of serious consideration to us.”

The company had been linked with possible openings in New York and the Middle East, but Mr Wainwright said Asia “is really the hot ticket in the world at the moment”.

Luxury department store Lane Crawford is also considering expanding in Asia, so Boodles could follow the business with more concessions, or consider opening its own independent stores.
