Liverpool City Council formally backs Go ON it’s Liverpool

All of Liverpool’s 90 city Councillors have supported a motion formally backing Go ON it’s Liverpool and the Give an Hour campaign.

Elected members were asked to sign up as digital champions and promote the campaign to get Liverpool residents online.

Councillor Laura Robertson-Collins, who put forward the motion said, “Liverpool has plans to participate fully in this – we aim to reduce the number of digitally excluded people in our city by 25,000 by next March.

The Give an Hour campaign is asking people who use the internet daily to sign up as ‘digital champions. We have a local target for this of 5,000 by March next year. How GREAT would it be if 90 of those 5,000 could be the councillors!”

Councillor Robertson-Collins put forward the motion, which was seconded by Councillor Nick Small, to the full council on 14 September 2011.

The Council will use its own resources as well as working in partnership with Liverpool Vision, Race Online 2012, RSLs, the Health Service, Fire and Rescue, the BBC and others.

The message will be spread via the council website, council newsletters, promotional materials in council offices and in public spaces.

The motion has been reported as item 49 in the official online minutes of Liverpool council.
