Knowsley biotech firm New Horizons Global clinchs multi-million pound export orders

KNOWSLEY biotechnology company New Horizons Global has achieved £2m-worth of new export orders, with a further £2.2m in the pipeline.
The firm, based on Knowsley Business Park South, employs 20 staff producing Omega 3 DHA made from micro algae, a natural replacement for Omega 3 which is usually obtained by eating fish such as cod, tuna and salmon.
It is used by the animal feed, nutrition and pharmaceutical, and food industries.
The firm targeted the Latin American market with the help of the Government-based UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) and over the past year has signed deals in Chile, Argentina and Brazil after attending a UKTI trade mission to South America last year.
UKTI’s Overseas Market Introduction Service (OMIS) eased the company’s entry into the overseas market by providing detailed research on the Latin America, USA, China, Mexico, India and Middle East markets, as well as identifying potential customers and distributors.
New Horizons Global commercial director Patrick Taylor said: “Without the in-depth research and detailed knowledge it would have been virtually impossible to understand our potential across the markets that we have entered or are planning to enter in 2011.”
The company has also recently signed a supply contract for 2011 with a major player in the European feed supply industry which it is estimated will produce a minimum of £2.2m of sales into the Europ0ean feed business.
