Insurance broking giant opens office in Liverpool
Global leading insurance broking and risk management firm, Marsh, is to open an office in Liverpool.
The news comes as the Arena & Convention Centre Liverpool plays host to the Airmic conference, the most important event in the calendar for the insurance and risk management industry in the UK.
Marsh is based in the same office as sister company Mercer, a global leader in human resource consulting, outsourcing and investments, at Mercury Court in Tithebarn Street. Both firms are subsidiaries of Marsh & McLennan Companies.
Marsh provides insurance broking and risk advisory services to organisations across the North West of England, including the retail/wholesale, manufacturing, power and utilities and food/beverage sectors, as well as financial institutions.
The move has been welcomed by Max Steinberg, chief executive of Liverpool Vision, who said: “Marsh’s move to Liverpool is further confirmation of the city’s strength in professional services and we welcome their commitment to the city and their plans for growth. Liverpool is a great choice for anyone expanding in the UK and we look forward to working with the company during the coming months to help cement their presence here.”
Mersey native Phil Angus joins from the firm’s Manchester office and previously led Marsh’s successful broking operations on the Isle of Man. He will be supported in his role by a team of insurance and risk experts, including client executives, project analysts and claims consultants, as well as North West Chairman John Penwill.
Commenting on the expansion, Phil Angus said: “I’m delighted to be coming home to Liverpool to lead Marsh’s insurance broking operation. Marsh & McLennan Companies has a long-standing presence in Liverpool and Marsh has ambitious growth plans for the North West of England. The formation of Marsh’s dedicated insurance and risk management unit brings together expertise and resources to help local businesses lower costs, manage risk, protect their future and thrive.”
Marsh & McLennan Companies has a long-standing association with Liverpool, stretching back to 1835 when Benjamin Bowring established his insurance brokerage business. Later known as CT Bowring, the Liverpool firm became a major international shipping and insurance broking business and was acquired by Marsh & McLennan Companies in 1980.
