Heseltine offers Liverpool medicine to London investors, bankers and developers23 November 11
Former Minister for Merseyside, Lord Heseltine extolled the virtues of what today’s Liverpool has to offer to an invited audience of investors, bankers, real estate consultants and developers in London yesterday aimed at attracting more investment to the city.
He spoke at the Invest in Liverpool event at The Royal Society of Medicine, organised by commercial property consultancy GVA, the city council and regeneration agency Liverpool Vision.
Attendees, including LCR members heard presentations supporting the view that Liverpool’s medium to longer term prospects for future investment are strong.
Lord Heseltine’s appearance follows the submission of a report written by him and former Tesco chief executive Sir Terry Leahy, at the request of Prime Minister David Cameron, to promote the Liverpool City Region’s economic growth.
Liverpool council leader Cllr Joe Anderson said: “I am determined that our ambition and our passion will not dim and that the momentum of recent years will see us through these difficult times and ensure we are well placed to capitalise when the situation improves.”
Utilising Liverpool’s London business desk at Royal Mint Court as a base, Liverpool Vision’s Chief Executive, Max Steinberg was able to equip The Royal Society of Medicine’s lecture hall with all necessary material to enable him to showcase the opportunities open to businesses in 21st century Liverpool. Mr Steinberg said: “The desire, the confidence and the partnerships are here to realise our ambitions.”
David Sayer, regional senior director at GVA, added: “The city’s potential as the UK’s leading regional centre for culture, retail and science-based higher education cannot be underestimated. With this in mind, Liverpool presents an exceptional longer term investment proposition. I am absolutely delighted with the take-up for this event as the number of delegates attending exceeded, by some margin, similar events we have hosted for other cities.”
Mark Chadwick, CEO, LCR said ”This is exactly what was envisaged earlier in the year when we presented at the Gherkin. It's great to see some genuine follow up activity. This is what our members are looking for, a real partnership with the public sector during difficult times."
