Iconic department store Harvey Nichols is on the cusp of signing a deal to open in Liverpool One.
The Knightsbridge-based retail empire is in advanced talks with Liverpool One to take over the former Habitat store in the spring.
The firm, which is almost 200 years old, is currently operating a so-called pop-up shop in Liverpool One, selling high-quality food and drink.
Chris Bliss, estate director at Liverpool One said: “We are currently in conversation with several potential retailers to discuss opportunities within Liverpool One and we’re committed to bringing new brands to Liverpool One to give our shoppers the variety they want.”
But the Daily Post understands negotiations are continuing and an announcement is expected shortly.
The world-famous firm traces its roots to 1813 when Benjamin Harvey opened a linen shop in a terraced house on the corner of Knightsbridge and Sloane Street in London.
It was not until 1996 that Harvey Nichols opened its second UK store in Leeds, Victoria Quarter.
In 2003 the company opened in Manchester, and five years later it opened its sixth UK store in Bristol.
Its recent expansion has also seen it open international shops in Jakarta, Dubai, Hong Kong, Istanbul, and Dublin.
The Harvey Nichols boost comes as a new award-winning family furniture store has become the latest addition to Liverpool One.
Manchester-based Stocktons has launched a new store in the Home Quarter, Hanover Street which features the region’s largest collection of multi-brand contemporary furniture and accessory retailers.
Director Kit Stockton said: “We have watched Liverpool grow and already enjoy great familiarity with the city having acquired a loyal following from many customers travelling from Merseyside and Wirral to see us.
“We’re delighted to be at the Home Quarter in Liverpool One and are looking forward to strengthening existing relationships and generating new ones.”
Mr Stockton is keen to build what he cites as ‘key affinity partner relationships’ with organisations like Tate Gallery and “companies working within architecture and design”.
Stocktons was founded in 1953 by his grandparents Reg and Maureen Stockton in Manchester.
“We have always appealed to a wide-ranging audience with a budget for furniture that is unique,” he added.
“We’re really excited about introducing labels to the city that are highly desirable and sought after too.”
Stocktons will be hosting their Liverpool launch party at Home Quarter Liverpool One in January.
The company was named ‘No.1 Independent Furniture Retail Store Award 2011’ by Interiors magazine.
