German cruise liner Aida Blu sails into Liverpool

Liverpool's waterfront played host to Germany’s second largest cruise liner this weekend.

Aida Blu sailed into Liverpool Cruise Terminal during the first of two 14-night round Britain trips from Hamburg.

The smiling face of the new $420m liner arrived on the River Mersey on Saturday. It was built at Meyer Werft shipyard, Germany, and commissioned in spring, 2010.

With an impressive 2,050 berths, it replaces the smaller vessel Aida Aura, which undertook three round-Britain tours last year.

Aida Cruises, which owns the liner, was originally a Communist East German line in 1960 that was taken over by P&O.

Liverpool will also see Germany’s largest cruise ship, m/v Mein Schiff, when she comes to the city for the first time on September 17.
