Black & Ginger create 'giant' concept
Liverpool design and advertising agency Black & Ginger has been appointed to design the concept and brand for 2012’s largest UK street event, The Sea Odyssey.
The Sea Odyssey is a free event, which will see a Little Girl Giant take to the city streets in a spectacular produced specifically for Liverpool by international marionette experts Royal De Luxe (RDL).
The event, which takes place from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 April 2012, will commemorate the centenary of the 1912 Titanic disaster and is expected to reach audiences of more than one million people.
Alex Frech, Managing Director of Black & Ginger said: “The opportunity to work with Royal de Luxe, the world’s leading street theatre company, on an event in our home city of Liverpool generated a lot of excitement among the team. This large scale, creative project will show the world what Liverpool can do.”
Black & Ginger drew inspiration from promotional material produced from the period by British shipping company White Star, who owned the ill fated vessel.
Director of Culture Liverpool, Claire McColgan, said: “It was clear that Black & Ginger’s imagination was firing on all cylinders. They suggested a highly innovative approach to promoting the event which is sure to resonate with the people of Liverpool.
“They understood this event’s potential to enchant thousands of visitors and residents and put a global spotlight on the city”.
Sea Odyssey forms part of the newly launched Liverpool Plan which is aimed at changing perceptions of the city and working with partners to promote Liverpool in a positive way.
All other details relating to the route of the Little Girl Giant and the story told by the giant are currently confidential and will be revealed nearer to the time.
