Chairman - Mike Parker
Michael Parker was born in Liverpool and received a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Manchester and an MBA from the Manchester Business School.
Michael began his career with Dow in 1968. During his career with the company he worked in the US, UK, Switzerland and Hong Kong. He became President and Chief Executive Officer of The Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Michigan, USA in 2000 and a member of the company’s Board of Directors from 1995 to 2003. He was appointed Group Chief Executive of BNFL (British Nuclear Fuels) in August 2003; at the end of June 2009 he finished this role following the successful dismantling and privatisation of the company.
Michael joined the Invensys Board as a Non-Executive Director in 2006 and subsequently became the Senior Independent Director. In 2008 he became Chairman of Liverpool’s new economic development and regeneration company, Liverpool Vision, having been appointed as Chairman designate in October 2007. He is a Non-Executive Director at PV Crystalox Solar and SNC-Lavalin as well as being a Trustee of the Royal Society for Prevention of Accidents. Recently he has been appointed as Chairman of Street League, a national charity that utilises football to engage with inactive 16-25 year olds.
Michael is also a member of the Manchester Business School Advisory Board.
Michael was awarded a CBE in the New Year Honours 2009 for services to the energy industry.
Cllr Joe Anderson – Leader of The City Council
Joe Anderson is the leader of the Labour Party in Liverpool and the head of Liverpool City Council after his party won a majority of seats in the 2010 Liverpool council elections. Anderson was born in Liverpool in 1958, attending St Vincent Primary School and St Martins Secondary School. He joined the merchant navy after leaving school but after 12 years on the ferries as an able seaman he was medically discharged due to eye problems.
Joe then attended Liverpool John Moores University as a mature student and obtained a Diploma in Social Work, this qualification allowed him to become Social Worker and lead to a job in Sefton Council's education welfare department. In 1998 he was elected to the council to represent the Abercromby ward - the area he grew up in. The Labour Party clinched 48 seats in the 2010 Election which led to Joe Anderson becoming the Leader of the City Of Liverpool.
Sir Terry Leahy, Former Chief Executive - Tesco Plc
Sir Terry Leahy was appointed chief executive of Tesco PLC in March 1997. He received a knighthood for services to food retailing in the 2002 New Year Honours. He went to school at St Edwards College, Liverpool and then went on to the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology where he gained his BSc (Hons) in management sciences. He is Co-Chancellor of Manchester University.
Terry was chosen as Britain's "Business Leader of the Year" in 2003 and the Fortune European Businessman of the Year for 2004. In 2005 he was selected as Britain's most admired business leader by Management Today, and a Guardian Unlimited Politics panel found him to be the most influential non-elected person in Britain in 2007.
Terry was granted the freedom of the city of Liverpool and knighted in 2002. He was Chancellor of UMIST, his alma mater, from 2002 until 1 October 2004, when he became a co-chancellor of the newly-formed University of Manchester. He has been honoured with a Doctor of Science from Cranfield University on 7 June 2007.
Cllr Malcolm Kennedy - Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport
Malcolm Kennedy is the Councillor for Kirkdale Ward and Labour spokesperson for Assets and Development. Malcolm has a breadth of experience in regeneration policy and project management. He has worked in key roles within the NWDA and as portfolio holder for regeneration in Liverpool City Council. He introduced an early support for Business Improvement Districts in the North West.
He has held influential positions with the co-operative movement and third sector organisations and drove support for innovative third sector solutions in economic development in the region. A particular interest in health and the social impact of health organisations has led him into championing the employment of mental health service users.
Cllr Nick Small - Cabinet Member for Employment and Skills
Nick Small was born and grew up in Liverpool. He graduated with an MA in Politics from the University of Edinburgh and has an MBA in Business Finance and Management from the University of Liverpool. Nick worked as a consultant for 11 years for Grant Thornton and KPMG, specialising in advising companies in the banking, leasing and financial services sectors.
Nick was first elected to Liverpool City Council in 2004. He represents Central ward, covering the City Centre and Kensington Fields. He represents Liverpool on the City Region Employment and Skills Board and is also the vice-chair of the Economic Development Forum of EUROCITIES, a network of 130 European cities. He is a governor of Liverpool Community College.
Nick is Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet Member for Employment & Skills. He is responsible for promoting employment growth in the city, confronting the barriers to employment and training, developing education and training to increase the city’s skills base. Nick also leads on developing the city’s international agenda.
Cllr Wendy Simon – Cabinet Member for Culture and Tourism
Wendy Simon is the councillor for Liverpool’s Kensington and Fairfield Ward. When the Labour Party was elected to power in May 2010 Wendy became the first female politician in Liverpool’s history to lead the Culture, Tourism and Sport portfolio at Liverpool City Council. Wendy also has over 30 years experience in local government. Wendy’s main task involves managing Liverpool’s legacy as European Capital of Culture 2008.
This key role includes overseeing £400m of cultural regeneration developments and working with key partners on implementing the findings of the UK’s first academic research programme on the impact and future of culture-led tourism. Wendy is also a key player in the management of Liverpool’s status as a UNESCO World Heritage site. With a post graduate degree in Law and Social Policy and a MA in Criminal Justice Management, Wendy is also a qualified social worker.
Cllr Paula Keaveney - Leader of the Opposition on Liverpool City Council
Paula is a Liberal Democrat representing Cressington ward and has previously been a party spokesperson on Regeneration and Governance. She is the first woman to be elected leader of a major party on the City Council.Paula is a University Lecturer at Edge Hill University where she teaches PR and journalism. She is a former communications specialist working for national charities and started her career as a BBC radio journalist. Paula has an MA in Philosophy and Politics and post graduate qualifications in journalism, PR and higher education teaching.
Paula is the published author of Marketing for the Voluntary Sector, Kogan Page. She is a regular broadcaster locally and has appeared on BBC TV's Mastermind where she reached the semi final with rounds on Seinfeld and Asquith.
David Bundred, Chairman – Surface Transforms plc
David Bundred has enjoyed a successful international general management career in blue chip engineering businesses over nearly 30 years. He worked for Lucas from 1976 to 1999, taking roles of increasing size and scale and finishing his time there as COO of Lucas Aerospace. David then entered the world of private equity and following a successful MBI and market reposition of the Ross Catherall Group, in 2003 he was appointed CEO of the TMD Group, a 4,000 employee, €700m supplier to the automotive industry headquartered in Germany.
He left TMD in 2006 and has since led a number of investment syndicates specialising in early stage quoted and unquoted companies with a particular focus on technology companies in need of both management help and investment.
Jeanette Kehoe-Perkinson, CEO - Just For People
Jeanette Kehoe-Perkinson was born and educated in Liverpool and after graduation from university joined Ford Motor Company where she started her HR career in Dagenham in 1989. Since then she has enjoyed a senior international business career with both blue chip companies such as Cargill and Novartis and the start-up online business, Priceline.com. Since 2003 she has been running her own consultancy, working with clients such as global online gaming companies PartyGaming and 888.com. Jeanette is currently CEO at Just For People Ltd.
John Kelly, Partner - KPMG
John Kelly is a partner in the international accountancy and advisory firm KPMG. He is Global Lead for Post Deal Services and European Head of their M&A Strategy Team. He advises clients on merger integration, delivering the value envisaged when the deal was contemplated. His experience encompasses some of the largest international mergers, acquisitions and divestments, and includes some of the North West’s major companies. Born in Liverpool and educated at St Edwards College, he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Liverpool and spent his earlier career in the North West. More recently, as a KPMG partner, he operates predominantly at a national and international level, whilst retaining the family home in Liverpool.
Jon Corner, Creative Director - River Media
Jon Corner is the co-founder of River Media, a creative production company in Liverpool. He has been either a creative director or creative collaborator in regional initiatives including Liverpool's status as European Capital of Culture and World Heritage waterfront and Salford's bid for Media City UK. Most recently he has conceptualised and delivered the city’s digital presence at Shanghai World Expo. He has worked in the music, television and film industries for more than 20 years and has been awarded for excellence in post-production techniques by Sony.
Jon Corner has also lectured extensively on global trends in digital technologies and their impact on how we live and learn and has been a long-standing advocate of the creativity agenda in teaching and learning. He is member of Council at the University of Salford and is Chairman of the Project Executive Committee for its new campus at Mediacity.
Tim Slack, Co-Director - Appreciating People
Tim Slack is the founder and lead Director of Appreciating People. Tim has worked in youth work and regeneration for over 30 years, starting his professional career as a youth and community worker in a Nottinghamshire mining community. He has held a number of posts including Principal Youth Officer, Social Inclusion Manager, CEO for a New Deal for Communities project, senior manager for SRB and EC Objective1 programmes, and R&D director for a Groundwork Trust.
Tim is an experienced group and whole systems facilitator and has managed both local authority services and community organisations, and has recently completed training as a Self-Factor coach. In January 2007 he became an accredited consultant for Cultural Transformation Tools (CTT).
Tony Wilson, Senior Partner - Hill Dickinson
Tony Wilson has been Senior Partner of Hill Dickinson, the largest law firm headquartered in Liverpool since 2001, and which has recently enjoyed its 5th successive record year. He is chairman of the LLP Board. Tony was born and educated in Liverpool and came back to the City after university - starting his legal career in a branch office in Walton. He moved into the City in the 1980s to help grow the business becoming Managing Partner between 1994 and 1998. During this time the firm opened offices in Manchester and Chester. Hill Dickinson is Official Lawyer to Liverpool 08 and Tony is the Company Secretary to the Board of the Culture Company.
